Usos discursivos e os postulados da gramaticalização: um estudo da expressão modalizadora pode ser

Abstract


O artigo discute a adequação, ou não, dos postulados da gramaticalização ao desenvolvimento de itens em direção ao nível discursivo. Consideram-se diversos posicionamentos dos estudiosos em relação à questão, e apresenta-se um estudo de caso, o da expressão modalizadora pode ser, na língua portuguesa do Brasil. Assentado na teoria funcionalista, o exame revela um deslizamento no funcionamento da construção, da gramática ao discurso. Argumenta-se, então, que esses desenvolvimentos parecem mais condizentes como processo de (inter)subjetivização, nos termos de Traugott (entre outros: 2010), o qual, entretanto, não exclui o da gramaticalização.
